Ancient Jain text is UNESCO world heritage gem
London, Jun 21 (PTI) An ancient Jain manuscript considered sacred by the community has been named as one of the rarest documents in the world by UNESCO, which said the text was of "lasting value to humankind".
''Shantinatha Charitra'', a text written in Sanskrit describing the life of Shantinatha the 16th Jain Tirthankara, was included in the ''World Register of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)''.
The international body said the Indian entry offers a universal message of friendship, global peace and unity with integrity and "the story is of lasting value to humankind".
"It also describes historical facts and professes high moral and cultural values. The Illustrations found in this manuscript are oldest specimens of miniature painting," it added.
"These illustrations are beautifully drawn in multi-colour and are examples of a highly evolved style of painting. As these illustrations are rarest of rare, their preservation and protection is necessary for humanity," UNESCO said.
The manuscripts are owned by Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Institute of Indology and were donated to them by the late Muni Punyavijayji, who had inherited it through family.

Jain Sadhu Accident at Bharuch,Gujarat

In a very unfortunate event, today (01.01.2013) at about 7;30 am on NH No. 8 near Bharuch (Near Hotel Atithi between Bharuch and Asuriya Vihardham) , two Sadhu Bhagvant viz. Shri Dhyanshekar Vijayji & Shri Hastgiri Vijayji were crushed to death by a tyrant truck driver. Both sadhu bhagwants were walking on extreme left of the road side on the soil and were hit from the back giving no chance even by horn or no brake was applied. Both sahdu bhagwants have been moved to Civil Hospital at Bharuch for post mortem and their Palkhi (Antimyatra) will begin at about 12:30 hr from Civil Hospital, Bharuch.. To create awareness among all, Agnisanskar will be given at the place of accident on NH No. 8 (200 metre from Hotel Atithi from Bharuch to Vadodara - appx SIX KILOMETERS from Zadewahwar chowkdi towards Baroda).

વિહારમાં સાથે રહેલા અન્ય બે જૈન મુનિનો બચાવ
ભરૂચ નજીક નેશનલ હાઇવે નંબર ૮ ઉપર નવા વર્ષની વહેલી સવારે સર્જાયેલાં અકસ્માતમાં બે જૈન મુનિના મૃત્યુ થવાની કરૂણ ઘટના બની હતી. ભરૂચના ઉપાશ્રય ખાતેથી વડોદરા તરફ વિહાર કરી રહેલાં ચાર જૈન મુનિઓના સંઘને અસુરિયા ગામ નજીક ટ્રકે ટકકર મારતાં બે જૈન મુનિના ઘટના સ્થળે જ અરેરાટીભર્યા મૃત્યુ થયાં હતાં જ્યારે અન્ય બે મુનિનો બચાવ થયો હતો.
In last 2 years Road Accidents for Jain Sadhu and no actions are taken by Police or Government to find the Victims. Lets gather tomorrow morning at Bharuch for Palkhi & Agni Sanskar of accidental death of Sadhu's at same place where accident took place at Highway. Also Join the rally post Agni Dah to protest against insecured life of Valuable Sadhu's and to find the Victims n ask Government to find Answers for this.
